A recent report has shown that Sainsbury’s offer car insurers the best deal out of the four main supermarkets, while Marks & Spencer have been titled the most expensive. A comparison carried out by everyinvestor.co.uk showed that while Sainsbury’s were the cheapest, Tesco wasn’t too far behind.
To get the quotes, the website took the details of an average man in Britain from the Office of National Statistics. According to them, Mr Average is 39 years old, lives in a house worth around £184,000 and drives a Ford Focus with an average annual mileage of less than 6,000.
Using these details, everyinvestor.co.uk were able to get a quote of £480 from Sainsbury’s, with Tesco coming second. Sainsbury’s and Tesco were the only supermarkets to offer a competitive rate. ASDA and Marks & Spencer gave sky high quotes of £765 and £910 respectively.
So, how do the supermarkets fare against the specialist insurers? Well, using the exact same details, the website were able to get a quote of £427.36 from Swiftcover Car Insurance. Churchill Car Cover came in at around £552.30 while More Than car insurance came third with £571.55.
As you can see, the specialist car insurers do offer the cheapest car insurance but supermarkets Tesco and Sainsbury’s aren’t too far behind. It’s clear that the Supermarket’s are doing something right with their insurance.
