The Association of British Insurers Urge Young Drivers To Get InsuredFebruary 4th, 2008

The Association of British Insurers has advised younger motorists to make sure they purchase their own car insurance, even if they plan to be the main user of a parent’s car. A spokesperson for the organisation, Malcolm Tarling, has said that although it may be possible to be the named drive on their parent’s cover, it’s only really suitable if they use the vehicle occasionally.
He went on to say,
“[Younger drivers] are much more likely to be involved in an accident. They are much more likely to claim and the claims cost a lot - I have never seen anything more expensive.”
However, young drivers have a tough job getting insurance as it has been reported that a number of car insurers, including Swiftcover, Axa and More Than, immediately reject claims submitted by those aged 17.
Have you ever had trouble with a young driver? Or are you a young driver who’s had trouble with their insurance company?
